Background of the THSVRA and Trust.

BACKGROUND OF THE T.H.S.V.R. ASSOCIATION WOODSETTON CHARITABLE TRUST

 

This Association was formed in 2001, to protect the remaining rural landscape in this urban area, and is supported by over 600 families in the neighbourhood.

An elected committee of 10 members, including a chairman, vice chairman, treasurer and secretary, manage the activities of the association, which holds a bank account, has an approved constitution, and obtain charitable status in 2007.

 

The association has to date: -

 

1)   Held six public meetings, with an average attendance of 120 residents, addressed by prominent speakers including the Leader of Dudley Council, Officers, Councillors, Consultants a local historian, and the local M.P.

2)   Sent out regular Newsletters to keep residents notified of current progress, including participation events.

3)   Obtained grants from various sources amounting to £10,500.

4)   Commissioned and obtained a Management Plan for the area, which was used by the Council to obtain Green Belt Status for Turls Hill, and to help to overturn a Planning Appeal on a local Greenfield site. Developed a five year plan for improvements

5)   Produced a short video of the area to demonstrate the aims and vision of the association, and to support its fund raising efforts.

6)   Provided speakers and representatives at local community and Council sponsored meetings.

7)   Supported Dudley MBC at two Planning Appeal hearings, with documentation and live evidence from a residents’ representative; the Vice Chairman Mr Bate, which contributed to the dismissal of one of the Appeals.

8)      Entered into the Dudley 2004 Community Pride Competition, at which the Association received a commendation for their work to date.      

 

 

The Association is, in the next 12 months, moving into the implementation stage, led by the Chair & Vice Chairman, in the following works.

 

1)        The construction of wetland area off Turls Hill Lane including fences and gates. To be used by local schools for educational purposes. Awaiting planning permission, and due to commence within 2 months. Is funded by the landowner, Seven Trent. (Funding Delay).

2)        Construction of vandal resistant gate at Turls Hill Lane to secure the area from unauthorised vehicles access—Funded by Dudley MBC. (Completed)

3)       Obtained a grants + design fees to secure the Swanbrook Valley area by provision of gates, fences, and surfacing paths—(Grant by Green Park Funding. Planning complete ready for tendering, will be implemented within months, following essential repairs to two bridges by Dudley M.B.C.)

4)         Provide footpath direction signs throughout the park area.

5)       To seek match funding from other sources.

6)    Obtained a grant from Cory Trust.     

7)    Obtained a further grant from Cory Environmental Trust.     

 

Total grants obtained to date (Aug 2008) is £10,500 + £81190 + project management fees                                                                                        

 

Association activities have created considerable awareness within the community, the local authority, and most landowners, of the opportunities available to protect and enhance the remaining landscape features, for the benefit of everyone, including the future generations.
